Before we left on our adventure Alex said that he was hoping to see a bunch of castles while we are in Europe. This past week has been a lot of logistical stuff (setting up utilities, bank accounts, etc.) and pretty boring for him. So...I decided to find a castle to go to as a day trip.
He and I went to Muiderslot Castle yesterday. It was a pretty nice castle and they even had a lot of the furniture and paintings from the time that the castle was in use which was unique to me - a lot of the castles I've gone to are just empty buildings where you have to imagine the furniture, etc.
He particularly enjoyed the armory where they had a full suit of armor from the 1600's, the calvary equipment, axes, javelins, and even helmets you could try on. It was amazing how limited one's field of vision is in one of those helmets!
They had a great audio tour as well which was super informative. It talked about a Dutch and Flemish legend where you could go to a face modifier who would take your head off and resculpt it. While you waited to get your head back they gave you a cabbage for a head! Alex wondered why we didn't have a similar legend.

Castle 1 down and many more to go. Way to lose your head over your first castle Alex. Wearing all that armor was very heavy and hot back then. Castles are a great way to look into the past, so much history. Have fun on all your future adventures.
Fun!! So now if Alex does something crazy, you could say, "Nice job, Cabbage Head," and he will know that his head is off for resculpting.
