Two Cross Country Meets in Brussels

Alex's last two cross country meets were in Brussels. The first was at the International School of Brussels and the second was at the British School of Brussels.
Both were about a 2.5 hour drive for us. Alex took the bus with the team (imagine a cushy tourist-type bus, even with its own bathroom).
The International School of Brussels was on a beautiful campus. It is clear they have a lot of diplomats' kids there as the security was quite tight. The race was partially paved and partially dirt trail. It went through a beautiful forest.
Here is Alex finishing the race on the school's track.

The second race (this past weekend) was also in a forest where the course was partially paved and partially dirt track. It was a bit muddy which was a little hindrance for the runners.
The course went past this building.

You don't get to run past something like that in Fresno!!
Here is the start of the race. You can see Alex with the two other ISA runners in his age group (we're the only school in orange).

And here is Alex finishing.

He ended up passing this kid right before the finish. :-)
And here is a picture of all of us together at the end of the day with another cool building in the background.

Alex is getting to know some people on the team. He hangs out with a couple of eighth graders and says it can be nice to see them during the day at school.
They were both fun days. Now we are done driving to cross country meets. There is a meet this Thursday in The Hague (~30 minute drive) and the final meet is in Amsterdam in mid November.

Wonderful update on distance running for Alex. Running can become a lifelong hobby and Alex is so lucky to have both of you supporting him on his journey. Run, Alex, Run!
Way to go Alex. You’ve become quite the experienced cross country runner. If I was running there I’d probably have a camera around my neck taking pictures :-) Great experience for all of you. Hope you guys get your driving license sent to you soon. I’d hate to here that you are in the ‘Pokey’. Looks like the winter weather is coming over there. Believe it or not we have a 59 degree high this weekend here; from 100 degrees to 59 degrees within 1 week. We have about 4 days of Fall this year.
How scenic!!! I know that runners can be very focused on the course. Did he see the buildings when running past them? How about the competition? Does he feel like they are in better shape over there and faster than he is used to running against?
